History of WJIA Christian Radio
As told by Pastor Broadus
My fascination of radio has been part of my life for at least 30 years. As a pastor I felt radio was a great tool to share the gospel and for reaching the lost as well as encouraging the saints.
In 1992 we were given the option to buy an existing AM Radio station in Albertville. After hiring a radio consultant it was a little more complicated and certainly more costly than we first thought. When this fell through the consultant informed us that we could start our own non-profit station for much less, so we began the process of filing with the F.C.C.
We received our building permit in 1993. We had 18 months to get the station on the air. We found a tower site and arranged for finances to start the station and ordered the equipment. It wasn’t long before the foyer of our church filled with boxes that I had no idea what to do with. We had a meeting at the church and four men volunteered to put things together. We filed for an extension with the F.C.C. because it took several months to get the tower site ready, put equipment together and build a studio.
In August 1995 the station came on the air. We were not prepared for 24 hours of airtime. So month by month and year by year we have progressively been growing and learning. We certainly want to thank all who have helped in any way, some have given much time and others have contributed financially to make WJIA the Christian voice it is today. Every one was an important part, but that is what the Body of Christ is all about. Pray for the station as we continue to broadcast the good news of our loving Savior.
